History
In 1969 three entrepreneurs thought they could offer something sophisticated and unique to garage doors, a product that they thought was otherwise a bit dull. Out of this idea came the name Creative Door, an organization with unlimited potential for growth.
Over the last 40 years years, Creative Door Services Ltd. has continued to offer the sophisticated and unique solutions our founders set out to deliver from the start. We brought the designer decorative garage door to Western Canada, the first to offer rubber overhead doors in our markets, and brought the innovative fabric door to Canada’s west coast.
Creative Door has always been raising the standard.
1969 - Creative Door was founded in Edmonton, Alberta
Early 1970s - Sold and installed hanger doors for Edmonton Int'l Airport. All major hanger work for Edmonton and Calgary International Airports was done over the next 20-25 years
1977 - First Authorized Dealer in Kelowna, British Columbia
1978 - Opened a branch in Calgary, Alberta
1982 - Acquired a small overhead door distributor in Regina, Saskatchewan
1985-86 - Introduced rubber doors to market, first to Syncrude in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Seen to be very functional and are now used all over the country
1989-91 - Introduced fabric doors, brought out of Helsinki Finland, to Western Canada. Popular with Seaports and Ship buidling industry
1992 - Acquired an overhead door company in Winnipeg, Manitoba
1994 - Opened a branch in Fort McMurray, Alberta
1995 - Opened a branch in Kelowna, British Columbia
1996 - Acquired an overhead door operation in Vancouver, British Columbia
1996 - Creative Door brings designer garage doors to Western Canada
1998 - Opened a branch in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
2004 - Creative Door completes special custom project at OEM Remanufacturing plant in Edmonton, Alberta
2006 - Creative Door founder, Dan Nixon, retires
2011 - Creative Door refreshes its look with a brand update and new website launch
2011 - Creative Door joins the Overhead Door Corporation family (subsidiary of Sanwa Holdings Corportation)
