The Importance of Having A Backup Battery for Your Automatic Gate
Canadian weather can be unpredictable, at times jumping from one extreme to the next without much warning. This can be concerning if you have an automatic gate that relies on electric power. Fortunately, at Creative Door Services™, most of our automatic gate operators come with a built-in backup battery system to ensure your gate will continue to operate normally if there’s an outage. Here’s an overview of the importance of ensuring your automatic gate system has a backup battery.
How do backup battery systems work?
Backup battery systems can be programmed to be either “fail-open” or “fail-secure.” In fail-open mode, the gate will unlock and remain open until the power is restored. In fail-secure mode, however, the gate will operate normally until the battery power is low.
There are two main types of backup battery systems. The first includes a battery, a secondary motor, and a controller that automatically kicks in when the power goes out. This type of system can easily be retrofit to an existing gate operator.
The second type is an inverter system where DC power from a large battery is converted to a 110-volt charge, which then runs your gate operator until the power is restored. This type of system is often built into the gate operator itself.
At Creative Door Services™, we also carry solar-powered gate operators that don’t rely on the power grid and will work as intended in the event of a power outage.
What should you know about manual disconnect?
At Creative Door Services™, we believe that having complete access to your driveway gate is important. That’s why we ensure that all our automatic gates come with manual disconnect. However, in most cases, you use a key to disconnect the motor drive from the gate shaft so you can manually open and close your gate as needed, and this isn’t always ideal as automatic gates can weigh over 450 kilograms. That’s why a reliable backup battery is so important.
Why are backup batteries key?
If you have a backup battery for your automatic gate, you don’t need to worry about losing access to your property in the event of a power outage. You can also rest easy knowing your estate will remain secure from vandals and thieves.
Additionally, having a backup battery for your automatic gate ensures that police, firefighters, and medical personnel can reach your property in the event of an emergency.
What additional gate access controls are there?
Invest in a backup battery for your automatic gate, and you’ll enjoy the convenience of having reliable access control. Here’s an overview of some of the most popular systems that Creative Door Services™ has to offer.
- Remote controls allow you to open and close your gate from the comfort of your vehicle with the press of a button. They’re portable, compact, and easy to store and operate. In addition, almost all Creative Door Services’™ remote-control systems use rolling codes to ensure that no one can hack your system. Furthermore, some of our gate operators are compatible with HomeLink® and Car2U®. These products are built into many new vehicles and eliminate the need for a separate remote.
- Wireless keypads allow you to select a secure and easy-to-remember numeric code that will provide convenient access to your property. Our keypads send an encoded signal to the operator to prevent hackers from discovering your pin.
- Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to link up your gate system with your smartphone, computer or tablet using Genie’s Aladdin Connect™ technology. This means you can open or close it from anywhere in the world, ensuring you can give your friends, relatives, pet sitters, and repair workers access to your home when you’re away. You’ll also receive alerts if your gate is accidentally left open.
If you want to retrofit your driveway gate with one of our state-of-the-art access control systems, the team at Creative Door Services™ will ensure you get the right features to meet your needs. We also provide installation services so that your setup works as intended for years to come.
