Our story began with two dedicated entrepreneurs. Hungry to bring creativity to garage doors, we were the first to supply internationally renowned technology to Western Canada—from designer garage doors to rubber and fabric commercial door solutions.

Over the next 48 years, we steadily grew our offerings and presence; today boasting eight locations across Western Canada. To this day, our team of certified professionals and technicians carry through that commitment to mastery, with the insights and enthusiasm necessary to make all that opens your world remarkable.

1969

• Creative Door is founded in Edmonton, Alberta

1970-76

• Hangar doors are sold and installed at Edmonton Int'l Airport. All major hanger work for Edmonton and Calgary International Airports is completed over the next 20-25 years

1977

• First Authorized Dealer opens in Kelowna, British Columbia

1978

• Creative Door's Calgary, Alberta branch opens

1982

• Creative Door acquires a small commercial door distributor in Regina, Saskatchewan

1985-86

• Rubber doors are first introduced and installed at Syncrude Canada in Fort McMurray, Alberta

1989-91

• Fabric doors, brought out of Helsinki Finland, are first introduced to Western Canada

1992

• Creative Door acquires a commercial door company in Winnipeg, Manitoba

1994

• Creative Door's Fort McMurray, Alberta branch opens

1995

• Creative Door's Kelowna, British Columbia branch opens

1996

• Creative Door acquires a commercial door operation in Vancouver, British Columbia

1996

• Creative Door brings designer garage doors to Western Canada

1998

• Creative Door's Saskatoon, Saskatchewan branch opens

2004

• A custom project is completed at the OEM Remanufacturing plant in Edmonton, Alberta

2006

• Dan Nixon, Creative Door founder, retires

2011

• Creative Door is refreshed with a new brand and website launch

2011

• Creative Door joins the Overhead Door Corporation family (subsidiary of Sanwa Holdings Corporation)

2014

• Creative Door becomes a multi-year winner of the Consumer Choice Awards

2015

• All eight branches of Creative Door become A+ accredited by the Better Business Bureau of Canada

• Creative Door and Miller Edge sign an exclusive distribution partnership agreement to offer customers a safer line of sensing product solutions for the intelligent access solutions industry

2016

• Creative Door adds custom gate products, services, and repairs to its business to provide additional value, services, and customization for residential and commercial customers

2017

• Creative Door launches a brand refresh and a new user-friendly website featuring a garage door design centre
• The Fort Hills project located in Edmonton, AB becomes Creative Door's largest project in its history

2018

• Creative Door expands its installation and service offerings to include commercial and industrial pedestrian doors and automatic doors
• Creative Door acquires Lux Overhead Door in Saskatoon, SK

2019

• Creative Door celebrates its 50th-year anniversary
