When you think of life in Saskatchewan, the grind of larger cities makes way for a slower pace of living, where wide-open spaces and busy homesteads are much more the norm than skyscrapers. In 2024, on such a homestead, a homeowner dreamed of building more than just a storage shop. He wanted a modern, functional space that could house equipment, tools, and recreational vehicles on his acreage, while also complementing the beauty of his home.
For the project, Wiserock Developments Ltd, a trusted home builder who prides themselves on quality craftsmanship, returned to a familiar partner: Creative Door Services. Years earlier, we had supplied new residential doors for this same client’s home. That positive experience left an impression, and when it came time to expand the property, the builder and homeowner knew where to turn.

The Challenge: Balancing Function, Style, and Budget
Every project carries a vision and a budget. This shop needed to be outfitted with doors capable of withstanding high winds and heavy snowfalls in the winter, high temperatures and prolonged UV exposure in the summer, and everything in between. It also needed to be stylish enough to tie into their home. With close collaboration between the builder, the homeowner, and our team of experts, we were able to find the solution to keep us on target for the requirements, budget, and timeline.

The Solution: Garage Doors that Do More
After detailed conversations, the right solution took shape: three sectional doors (one 10’ x 10’ and two 16’ x 10’) provided by Richards Wilcox. The model: the Landmark Premium L200C in a Honey Cedar finish. Slim satin windows were added, providing natural light and clean lines that gave the building a modern edge, seamlessly tying it back to the home.
Although this door features a woodgrain textured look, it’s made of steel, providing the allure of wood without the extensive maintenance. The Landmark Premium doors are insulated with a high-density polyurethane, feature state-of-the-art weather seals and have an R-value of 18, making them an ideal choice for homeowners looking for a durable door that can withstand harsh elements and help keep their shop temperate year-round, whether it’s used for working, relaxing, or simply parking an ATV.
For optimal functionality, we agreed to pair the doors with Genie Wall Mount Pro Series 6170H-B openers. Equipped with a battery backup system, this operator allows the doors to be opened and closed even during power outages. Since the shop was designed to be multi-use, a wall-mounted opener was the better option, clearing most of the ceiling for additional storage space. With an automatic lock and an advanced no-contact reversing system, this operator also promotes safety.

A Smooth Build on Budget
Before we could take the next step, the Creative Door Services team completed a thorough site check. Thanks to Wiserock Developments Ltd.’s expertise and attention to detail during the build, framing was perfectly done, allowing for a smooth installation without delays or surprises.
The project came in at a fair price point; Factoring $20,600 for the three doors and a little over $11,500 for their installation, the total construction value came to $32,118, balancing quality products and expert installation with the homeowner’s budget.
The result: A shop that isn’t just a place to park equipment but a centrepiece of the property: modern, practical, and built to last.

More than Garage Doors
Perhaps the most meaningful part of this project is the relationship behind it. A builder who values craftsmanship. A homeowner who trusted us not once, but twice, to deliver high-end products and expert services. And a project that reflects what we strive for on every job across the prairies: spaces that people are proud of, built on a foundation of quality and teamwork.
