Typical Applications for Fire Doors
Fire doors are found in various commercial settings like offices, shopping malls, and hotels. Industrial establishments, like factories and warehouses, also rely on fire doors to contain potential hazards. Moreover, fire-rated doors are mandatory in schools, hospitals, and healthcare facilities to create a safer environment for occupants and emergency responders. Creative Door Services offers fire doors that are extremely versatile. In our wide range of rolling fire doors and sliding fire walls, there is a solution for openings of all sizes, giving you the flexibility to create a truly safe environment even in expansive lobbies, narrow corridors, wide hallways, and staircases.
Fire Door Features
Here’s an overview of some of the features of our fire doors:
- Smoke detectors. Smoke and heat detectors can be integrated into the closing mechanism of many fire-resistant doors to automatically close in the event of a fire. This helps contain smoke and flames, slowing the progression of the fire within your building.
- Temperature-activated locks. Automatic door locks often have fusible links that melt at a specific temperature, usually around 74 C (165 F). When the links melt, the fire doors automatically lock. This ensures the doors remain secure, preventing the spread of flames and smoke.
- Gaskets. Fire-resistant doors often come equipped with smoke gaskets that create a tight seal when the door is closed, preventing the escape of noxious fumes. This is crucial in protecting occupants from inhaling harmful smoke and toxins during a fire while also minimizing damage to your facility.
- Alert systems. Many fire doors can be fitted with sounder strobes and horns to act as alarms, offering an audible and visual emergency alert system and notifying occupants of a fire-related emergency.
Many models come with a robust warranty and are easy to drop test for added peace of mind.

Understanding Fire Ratings
A door’s fire rating is a measure of how long it can resists the heat of a standard fire and prevent the passage of heat or gases that are hot enough to ignite cotton pads, and knowing which rating is right for your needs could save lives!
Fire ratings are typically expressed with “FD” followed by the amount of time in minutes. The most common fire ratings are:
- FD30: A door that can resist a fire for a minimum of 30 minutes. These doors are typically installed in smaller facilities like modest residential buildings and small offices.
- FD60: A door that can resist fire for a minimum of 60 minutes, traditionally installed in bigger buildings where complete evacuation might take more than a few minutes. FD60 doors are often found in hospitals, schools, and high-rises.
- FD90: A door that can resist fire for a minimum of an hour and a half. This type of door is seldom seen in everyday buildings and are most frequently used in industrial buildings and facilities where flammable materials are stored.
- FD120: A door that can resist fire for a minimum of 2 hours. FD120 doors are used wherever fire containment needs and fire risks are elevated such as power plants, data centres, and other high-risk industries. They can also be an asset when installed in evacuation paths for high-occupancy establishments.
At Creative Door Services, we stock fire doors with fire ratings that are rated anywhere from a half-hour to four hours.
